**About the Role**

The Apprenticeship Support Officer (‘ASO’) Program provides extensive support to young apprentices during their first year of training, with a wide network of ASO’s operating throughout Victoria to assist apprentices to navigate the apprenticeship system as well as helping them resolve issues as they arise.

The _Skills and Jobs Centre _(‘SJC’) based at Victoria University is responsible for managing the delivery of the ASO Program as contracted by the _Department of Jobs Skills Industry and Regions _(‘DJSIR’). The SJC sits within the Victoria University TAFE department of ‘Business Development, Industry, Government Funding and Projects’ and works with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver well-informed, client-centric, innovative and high-quality services for individuals seeking assistance with their individual career development.

The ASO provides apprentices with an independent advice service to discuss all basic and more complex issues that could impact their apprenticeship, including workplace or training issues, disputes with employers, bullying, performance issues and personal issues, including mental health. Major responsibilities include customised advisory services, mentorship, advocacy, connecting apprentices with a range of other support services and offering support directly to apprentices, trainees and employers in person at their workplaces.

**About You**:
This position is suited to a highly organised and self-driven individual who is passionate about apprentices and their success.

You will be able to exercise initiative and judgement and manage multiple priorities daily and your excellent communication skills, empathy, patience and problem-solving skills will see you excel in this role.
- Extensive experience in mentoring, community development or related apprenticeship services.
- Understanding of the VET sector and the apprenticeship system within Australia and demonstrated experience in providing client support to apprentices or similar cohorts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure that information provided is succinct, effective and contains required content to achieve its purpose.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence the decision of others through logical persuasion, reason and facts.
- Highly developed liaison and coordination skills; especially the ability to develop and utilise other services and networks to support apprentices and employers.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and cooperatively with a range of stakeholders.Excellent administration and record keeping skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

**This full-time position will be offered on a fixed-term contract basis until 30 **th **June 2025 at classification level HEP 7, with a salary range of $94,526 per annum to $102,320 per annum plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17%.
