About Chinchilla State School

Chinchilla State School has a diverse range of students and staff, having approximately 450 students and 60 staff. Our school has a strong focus on educational achievement, well-being and engagement and culture and inclusion. In 2024, we will pay particular attention to aligning our reading practices to the state-wide reading statement and familiarising our staff with the changes to the Australian Curriculum in English and Maths to be implemented in 2025.

About the Role

The Head of Department (Curriculum) role will lead and manage the activities of students and teachers, in line with the school's vision and values pertaining to but not limited by enacting the Australian Curriculum at our school. Working as a member of the school's strategic team, you will improve the educational outcomes of students in the school by facilitating quality teaching and learning and nurturing positive relationships.

The role will include responsibility for strategic work aligned to AIP and Explicit Improvement Agenda priorities, line management responsibilities of years 2 and 5 year level teams, student engagement and health, safety and wellbeing(HSW) teams.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leading the implementation of Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum (English, Mathematics and building staff capability in new areas of Science, HASS and HPE), ensuring alignment with key curriculum priorities and fidelity of implementation
Leading the coordination and development of the whole school 3 levels of planning
Ensuring all students are working towards positive outcomes aligned to the Department of Education's Excellence and Equity strategy
Leading the school's moderation processes
Supporting differentiation in mainstream classes, including ICPs, adjustments, templates, and referral pathways
Leading collaborative planning, analysis od student data, and delivering PD aligned to the school's Explicit Improvement Agenda
Leading whole-school approaches to pedagogy
Coordinating One School reporting
Liaising with support services, including the Speech Pathologist and Guidance Officer, to support student needs
Includes a small teaching load based on school and staffing requirements
