**About ARWA**:
The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA) is leading the responsible management and safe storage and disposal of Australia’s radioactive waste. A key element of ARWA’s program is the delivery of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility which will provide a purpose-built, engineered solution to manage radioactive waste from sources such as nuclear medicine production.

**About The Opportunity**:

- Demonstrate a sound understanding of radiation and nuclear safety concepts, safety in radioactive waste management, design safety features, waste characterisation, and controls.
- Proven experience in undertaking safety assessments and making risk-informed decisions.
- Experience in the radioactive waste management industry.
- Knowledge of regulatory systems and practices relevant to radiation safety regulatory needs, safety case methods and standards of practices, including their applicability and limitations, and provide support to staff to do likewise.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills that foster trust and cooperation, and a proven ability to work effectively and with integrity within a fluid and politically sensitive environment.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills including writing and editing high level documentation and reports.
- An ability to work with independence and under broad direction in managing complex to very complex specialist safety case activities, budgets, resources and information flow.
- Understanding of the policy setting in which radioactive waste management decisions and discussions occur.
- Sound understanding of Commonwealth Government processes
**Qualifications**:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering and/or similar Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and/or equivalent industry experience.
**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
- Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher-level security clearance.
