As an Assessment Officer in the Public Interest Disclosure team, reporting to the Manager, Reporting and Assessments, working in the Investigations and Public Interest Disclosures Branch, means no two days will be the same.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Liaising with Disclosers and assessing the potential for any reprisal action against disclosures and implementing appropriate prevention measures;
- Communicating with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including members of the Australian Defence Force, the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s Office, and Senior Executive; and
- Enabling good delegated decision making based on sound judgement and evidence, within legislated timeframes.
**About our Team**
The Directorate of Public Interest Disclosures is a team of professionals dedicated to assessing and investigating disclosures made under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act). As part of the Defence Integrity Division, we regularly engage with various Defence stakeholders across Defence.
The PID Act provides a framework for the disclosure and investigation of serious wrongdoing in the Commonwealth public sector offering a statutory reporting mechanism for current and former Defence officials (APS, ADF, and contractors).
Authorised Officer Assessments conducted by the Directorate are in line with the PID Act and Commonwealth Ombudsman guidelines.

- Research, Analysis, and Risk Management: You will be adept in researching and analysing information, probing for clarity, producing solutions, making judgments, and thinking systematically, including identifying and addressing issues raised through PID disclosures;
- Communication and Relationship Management: You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to leverage interpersonal skills to build and sustain productive relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities; and
- Commitment to Integrity: As an investigator within the Defence Integrity Division, you will exemplify and promote integrity and commitment to Defence Integrity and APS Code of Conduct standards.
