**The Role**
The Data Analytics, Intelligence and Recoveries Directorate (DAIR) is responsible for the development of analytics programs supporting fraud detection within the Department, as well as providing investigative support and intelligence services to Fraud Investigators.
The APS 6 Fraud Data Analyst is responsible for:
- Developing analytical programs to support detection of fraud and corruption, in line with the Fraud Control Plan 2024-2026 and the relevant risks.
- Improving and producing periodical reports and briefs to the Executive Leadership on topics of policy compliance and investigative trends.
- Supporting data literacy in the broader Division by promoting best practices in data visualisation and data governance.
- Ensuring ethical use of data and upholding legal and privacy standards.
**About our Team**
The Defence Integrity Division (DID) is a high performing team accountable for the promotion of integrity and assurance within Defence. The Investigations and Public Interest Disclosure Branch (IPIDB) in DID encourages and endorses integrity culture, by delivering Defence's key controls, to detect and respond to fraud and corruption.
The Branch investigates complaints using fraud reporting mechanisms, data analytics, intelligence and procurement compliance capabilities. The Data Analytics, Intelligence and Recoveries (DAIR) Directorate within the IPIDB performs a range of analytical and intelligence tasks to support fraud and corruption control within Defence. The DAIR team supports active fraud and corruption investigations internally and provides data to external bodies such as the National Anti-corruption Commission (NACC) and the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO).
We are looking for professionals who have a proven ability to work independently to achieve strong performance outcomes in an integrity context.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:
- Experience and / or qualifications in data analytics, intelligence or similar.
- An understanding of fraud and corruption in a Commonwealth context, or the ability to obtain.
- Detailed understanding of data analysis / visualisation concepts, with the ability to translate findings from analysis to written reports or briefs for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and effectively meet tight timeframes.
- A high level of integrity both inside and outside the work environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a framework of legislation, policy and procedures to maintain the trust and confidence of Defence senior leadership and the Australian Government.
- Ability to support ethical use of data, following the relevant privacy and data sharing legislation.
