About This Opportunity

The Head, Mater Clinical Unit is a key leadership position within the UQ Medical School. Reporting to the Director, Greater Brisbane Clinical School, you will provide academic leadership in research and education (focussing primarily on the MD Program) for the Clinical Unit. You will be responsible for all academics involved in the medical program within the Unit and plays a leading role in promoting effective engagement with the Executive of Mater Health. Additionally.

Overall, the purpose of the role is to champion, manage and review the provision of high-quality teaching, learning and supervision experiences within the Clinical Unit to maximise medical student outcomes; to encourage and promote opportunities for clinical and educational research; to mentor, advise and support students and staff; and to engage constructively with the clinical community and hospital management.

What We Can Offer
- Academic category: Clinical Academic
- Academic level: D or E
- Duration: Fixed-term, up to five years
- Fraction: The role of Head, Mater Clinical Unit is a part-time (0.3FTE), fixed-term position for up to 5 years. It is anticipated the successful appointee will also take on another Clinical Unit role, such as the Deputy Head of Learning Community (Year 2, 3 or 4) or Principal Speciality Supervisor (in the relevant discipline) of the Medical Program, thus bringing the total part-time appointment up to 0.5FTE.
- Remuneration: At 0.5FTE, the total package (inclusive of loadings and 17% super) will be in the range $181K - $219K.
- Conjoint appointment: A conjoint appointment with a Hospital and Health Service will also be negotiated.

About You

We are seeking an individual with Medical qualifications and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with a specialist qualification permitting registration with AHPRA and recognition by the appropriate specialist college.

The successful appointee must also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Postgraduate qualification (PhD or MD by research) in an area related to Medicine or medical education, or equivalent scholarly contribution.
- A sustained record of both leadership in the profession and clinical innovation.
- Experience as a research leader including attracting and managing external research funding, supervising HDR students, and leading significant research activities and outcomes.
- A sustained record of outstanding impact and national achievement in clinical teaching and/or clinical research.
- High-level communication skills.
- Demonstrated academic leadership, strategic development, organisational, and business management skills.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge and highly developed skills in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and involvement in continuing education in medical teaching.
- Ability to establish effective relationships, work collaboratively with colleagues and to represent and promote the interests of the University to other academic units, healthcare executives, government and professional bodies.
