About the role

Mater Social Work and Psychology department at Mater Health are looking for a Senior Social Worker to join the Mater Advocacy and Protection Unit role (MAP Unit), on a Permanent fulltime basis located at our South Brisbane campus.

The MAP Unit provides integrated and specialised education, training, advice and clinical consultation to Mater employees statewide who are engaged with consumers experiencing, or at‑risk of experiencing violence, abuse and neglect across the lifespan.

The MAP Unit sits within the Social Work and Psychology department at Mater Health, which provides a broad range of public and private acute health services with adults, women’s health, neonatology, children and adolescent services.

The MAP Unit supports the delivery of high value, coordinated and evidence-based care including concerns related to Child Protection, Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) including Elder Abuse, and Sexual Assault.

- Provide Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence clinical advice within professional and multidisciplinary teams and when liaising with all internal staff and external agencies.

- Provide consultations in Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence matters, to build capacity and confidence of staff statewide to recognise, respond, and refer patients for appropriate support and protection.

- Provide support, advice and referral pathways for information sharing and integrated service responses.

- Develop reciprocal relationships with stakeholders, building partnerships that encourage collaborative models of service delivery and care.

- Provide advice on policy and implement legislative changes under the Child Protection Act 1999 and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012.

- Actively contribute to the research culture and collaborate on clinical research activities.

- Contribute to the development of new and existing services, models of care, procedures and protocols that support high quality patient care and efficient, cost‑effective service delivery.

- Lead complex case reviews and quality improvement processes to support patient‑centred, best practice care.

- Identify, initiate, plan and evaluate quality and service improvement activities to achieve positive outcomes for clinical services and patients.

- Contribute to achieving team and departmental KPIs including efficiency and productivity targets.

- This role requires the incumbent to adhere to the Mater behavioural standards including the Mater Mission, Values, Code of Conduct, Mater Credo as well as any other relevant professional and behavioural standards, translating these into everyday behaviour and actions, and holding self and others to account for these standards.

- Staff at Mater have a commitment to safeguarding vulnerable patients across the lifespan to meet the Child Safe Organisation Act 2024 and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards 2022.

About you

- A degree in social work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

- Current Blue Card.

- Demonstrated ability to deliver adult education and training in the speciality areas of the MAP unit.

- Experience in psychosocial and risk assessment frameworks including but not limited to, Common Risk and Safety Frameworks, Safe and Together perpetrator mapping and victim survivor partnering and safety planning skills.

- Experience in child protection and/or domestic and family violence practice across the lifespan and ability to apply this within a health context.

- Ability to apply independent clinical judgement with minimal supervision, based on contemporary research.

- An understanding of the intersection and complexities of child protection and domestic and family violence integrated practice.

- Demonstrated high level clinical practice and independent clinical judgement in the delivery of Child Protection and domestic and family violence clinical services.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, contribute to decision making and address conflict with professionals and multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers and other stakeholders.

- Evidence of clinical leadership, mentorship and supervision.

- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and evaluate quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes.
