Research Officer (Bioinformatics)

Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Bioinformatics Research Laboratory of Dr. Yunshun Chen within the ACRF Cancer Biology and Stem Cells Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

Dr Chen’s laboratory collaborates closely with researchers across WEHI and external partners to study cancer biology, with a particular focus on the identification of cancer stem cells and mechanisms of cancer initiation. The lab applies single-cell and spatial omics technologies to cancer research and develops advanced computational and statistical bioinformatics methods to interpret complex genomic data from cutting-edge platforms.

Selection Criteria

Knowledge and Skills:
- A PhD or equivalent qualification in a quantitative discipline such as Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Computational Biology.- Proven data analysis expertise using R/Python and Bioconductor software.- Experience with bioinformatics pipelines in Unix/Linux environments and on high-performance computing systems.- Demonstrated experience in genomic, transcriptomic, single-cell, or spatial-omics research.- Knowledge of machine learning or artificial intelligence methods.- Understanding of data management, integrity, and security principles.- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with researchers, bioinformaticians, and clinical collaborators.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.- Strong time management and organisational abilities, with the capacity to prioritise and meet deadlines.- High level of motivation and initiative to advance biomedical research.- Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills for constructive collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment.- Attention to detail with strong record-keeping and documentation practices.

Terms of appointment

The full time position is available for a period of 2 years. Salary is Research Officer Level A4-8 ($96,430 to $111,707). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
