About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

Strategic Frontline Communication Group coordinates, manages and delivers strategic public safety operational communications capabilities and value to QFES. The team coordinates, manages and supports frontline communication services that provide operational frontline benefits to the Queensland community and partner agencies. The team also represents QFES at various working groups and committees to integrate into the international, national and state agenda, initiatives and enhancements to sustain and improve public safety communications.

Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team, responsible for working closely with business unit managers and stakeholders, to provide coordinated administrative and logistics support for national and state strategies, plans and initiatives. You will also provide a range of support functions for operational deployments, committee secretariat responsibilities and interdepartmental engagements to ensure effective delivery of service.

- Knowledge and/or experience in the creation and production of business aligned artefacts, documents and presentations.

Special requirements
- It is expected that the incumbent may participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster during emergency operations. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include deployment to other parts of the state.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Provide high-level administrative and program support, including maintaining document management systems, digital filing and tracking of records through SharePoint web management or other storage systems.
- Coordinate administrative activities including human resource management, finance, procurement and logistics management to assist in the end-to-end process for program deliverables.
- Assist in the review and evaluation of administrative and reporting systems and provide recommendations in relation to improvements which increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Undertake research, analysis and provide advice in the development, review and continuous improvement of documentation and ensure compliance with departmental policy and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of correspondence, briefings and reports on matters relevant to strategic communication activities, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
- Liaise and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in relation to various program initiatives to ensure consideration of issues and delivery of positive outcomes.
- Provide secretariate support to committees, working groups and forums by preparing agendas, recording and circulation of meeting minutes and follow-up on actions, decisions and outcomes.
- Work under limited supervision using a high level of initiative to resolve issues, deliver practical solutions and disseminate information which supports business outcomes.
