Subjects that make up the Mathematics Learning area are:
- Mathematics (Years 7-9)
- Mathematical Methods Preparatory (Year 10)
- General Mathematics Preparatory (Year 10)
- Essential Mathematics Preparatory (Year 10 Semester 2 only)
- Mathematical Methods (Years 11-12)
- General Mathematics (Years 11-12)
- Specialist Mathematics (Years 11-12)

This role will also have leadership and oversight over:
- Developing, implementing, and promoting extension Mathematical initiatives and Mathematical co-curricular opportunities within the College.
This role will support the following operations of the College:
- Promotion of entrepreneurship initiatives and partnerships within the area of Mathematics and working collaboratively with our Business, Science, Arts and Technology / STEAM coordinator
HOD’s are also required to work in close partnership with Primary Leadership Team to ensure a seamless and developmental teaching programme PP-12, particularly in regard to numeracy and literacy.
As an academic leader and mentor, the HOD must motivate, encourage and inspire the development of a strong, effective and efficient teaching team that operates with a clear focus on delivering outcomes for students and the College as a whole. The HOD belongs to the dynamic Secondary Academic Committee whose role it is to drive student focussed teaching and learning at the College; fulfilling our strategic direction of providing an outstanding student experience to all secondary students.
All teachers are appointed by the CEO/Executive Principal of MBC and MBBC and they are responsible to them for the over-all performance of their duties. The CEO/Executive Principal delegates authority to senior staff members for the effective management of the College. This role will report directly to the Deputy Head of Secondary (Teaching and Learning).
The College offers a very broad programme in sporting, musical and pastoral activities. Due to the nature of this middle leadership role, there is an expectation of participation and support of co-curricular contributions.
All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church day school for girls from PP-12.

- Work with teachers and support staff to make explicit the vision and goals for the learning area and to develop an annual department plan aligned with College strategic direction and annual operational plans.
- Strategically manage planned change within the department in response to whole school or department initiatives.
- Encourage initiative and innovation by teachers and supportive staff.
- Lead conversations and actions about the use of data and other evidence to improve teaching and learning.
- Foster and contribute to collaborative working relationships with other HODs and Senior Leaders of the College.
- Communicate regularly with teachers to ensure a coherent and consistent approach in their teaching and assessment of student work.
