The Policy Specialist will manage strategic policy issues cutting across the business by delivering evidence-based positioning and ensuring consistency with company-wide business priorities.

The role will focus on providing external consultation responses and related formal submissions, and proactive planning for policy engagement opportunities across government and undertaking policy research, building new evidence-based policy positions and support amongst external stakeholders.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead on sector-wide consultations, relating to issues including decarbonisation, renewable energy, energy costs, industrial strategy, budget submissions and whole of industry issues;
- Assess policy proposals and develop policy positions and draft policy submissions;
- Supporting policy lobbying efforts and represent the company in external forums to ensure these responses are accurate and in alignment with business and strategic objectives;
- Engage extensively with regulators, peak industry bodies, government departments, and officials;
- Engage with internal partners to promote understanding and effective responses to economic, regulatory, and policy developments;
- Deliver a program of thought leadership projects;
- Building the evidence base on key policy areas, through a partnership with respected economic consultancies and academics;
- Ensure consistency with policy positions and ensure these are captured within planning and reporting processes; and
- Lead on briefings for senior commercial leaders for relevant external engagement.

**Required competencies and experience**
- Extensive experience in an energy-based policy or strategy role and significant wider experience of working on complex public policy issues in regulated sectors and/or in Government;
- Tertiary qualifications and significant energy sector experience;
- Experience in drafting internal briefing documents for senior business leaders, and external positioning for a corporate (for example responses to government consultations);
- Highly collaborative, enabling consistent positions to be developed across multiple teams seamlessly;
- Strong commercial acumen, ensuring policy positions are fully consistent with enabling commercial objectives;
- Able to translate complex concepts into clear and concise messaging (verbal and written), and delivering with impact to senior audiences;
- Able to produce a high volume of factually accurate, quality reports/documents to short deadlines - inspires confidence from executive leadership;
- Skilled in managing complex projects including commissioning external research, involving the management of budgets, virtual teams, and tight project deadlines; and
- Able to identify strategic risks and opportunities for the business.
