**Role**:
An education support class role at this range is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of services. At this level, an employee may direct and supervise the work of other staff members to achieve specific objectives in school administration, operations or educational programs.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or in circumstances where supervision is required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Management of the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Senior management will be provided with reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision, or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations. Staff management issues will be resolved with mínimal reference to a senior manager, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.
**Responsibilities**:
The First Aid/Admin officer is responsible for management of the first aid area, ensuring it is clean, well organised and maintained in accordance with current OHS standards.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Attend to and monitor students who become ill during the school day. Notify parents/carers of those students who need to be transported home.
- Responsible for the assessment and first aid treatment of minor injuries and organising appropriate care with parents to follow up other injuries.
- Maintain and update documented first aid procedures.
- Order, store, monitor and administer medication and medical supplies in accordance with the _Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances legislation_.
- Responsible for accurate records being kept to ensure the health and safety of students.
- Appropriate reporting of incidents on Compass and eduSafe Plus according to Department of Education (DE) guidelines.
- Keep staff informed, when permission is given, of students who require special medical allowances in class i.e. Blue Card system, notification verbally or Compass postings.
- Communicate with parents when health issues arise in the school environment.
- Liaise with relevant staff before excursions. Print the event handbook and highlight students with medical conditions i.e. EpiPen reminders, diabetic alerts, epilepsy alerts, etc. Recommend and organise appropriate first aid equipment required for excursions and camps.
- Ensure all Camp Medical Forms are obtained prior to camps. Liaise with relevant staff to review the Camp Medical Forms prior to school camps and follow up, where necessary, incomplete forms or forms that require further medical information or clarification.
- Liaise with Whitehorse Immunisation Program team to organise and facilitate the tri-annual immunisation programs and catch-up programs within the College. Organise and follow up consent forms for student immunisations to ensure that the actual days run with mínimal disruption to classes. Help parents with immunisation enquiries and immunisation schedules.
- Organise the annual staff influenza and DTP vaccinations.
- Monitor year 7 enrolment forms (Medical Section) to enable the school to accurately anticipate the medical needs of students commencing the following year.
- Liaise with parents prior to Year 7 Camp to assist with any anxiety concerns and interview any of those parents who may require introduction to the School Counsellor for further intervention.
- Continually maintain and update Anaphylaxis/Asthma/Allergy student documentation.
