About the job

Our commitment to health and safety at Alcoa and creating a proactive safety culture is our number one priority. We are always looking for ways to improve controls, systems, and tools that will support us towards creating a safer environment for our people each and every day.

In this newly created role, as our Health & Safety Superintendent your primary purpose will be to support the effective implementation of safety management systems, strategies, and initiatives across our Australian locations to improve H&S critical risk control management.

Reporting into our Regional Health & Safety Manager and acting in their role as required, you will lead development initiatives, have a collaborative approach and further contribute to our operations by:
- Building relationships with senior management across all locations, mentoring and providing integrated technical and strategic advice to influence positive change.- Conducting analysis / interrogate governance systems to ensure continuous improvement is value adding.- Leading the H&S change management process including but not limited to major incident investigation.- Actively supporting location safety professionals through mentoring and coaching including coverage for Safety Manager’s planned absences.- Providing operational safety guidance, diligence, consistency, and discipline to operational leaders.- Identifying and initiating localised Fatality Prevention initiatives and influence Location/Department Leaders to implement.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- Tertiary degree or post graduate qualifications in Health & Safety Management will be considered favourably.-
- Experience working within a similar capacity in a Senior H&S management role.- Expertise in leading audits, inspections and investigations and a background risk-based H&S management.- Proven track record of success in the implementation of continuous improvement strategies.- Industry exposure - Mining, Refining, Smelting and metal production technologies or similar manufacturing environment would be highly regarded.- A flexible and adaptable work approach - participating in after hour calls, H&S campaigns across the region and regular travel to locations will be as required.
