About the role

AGL’s Market Modelling team have an opportunity for a Manager Load Forecasting.

Based in Melbourne, this team is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of both short and medium-term electricity and gas demand forecasts, as well as the optimisation and enhancement of forecasts.

As Manager, you will be leading this team which adds value through the provision of high-quality quantitative and qualitative analysis of customer demand enabling effective management of AGL’s hedge position. They provide analysis of market trends, strategic and customer insights which are fed into decision making processes and aid portfolio optimisation.

The team interacts with a range of stakeholders across AGL, including Business Sales, Sales and Marketing, Energy Market Operations, Finance, Risk and IT.

What you’ll be doing:

- Drive Wholesale Markets Gross Margin through the provision of accurate and timely demand forecasts to manage trading positions and support commercial outcomes
- Lead and develop a team of load forecasting and senior load forecasting analysts, provide coaching and mentoring while maintaining a high engagement, collaborative team culture
- Manage relationships across the business, ensuring requirements are met for specific business units
- Represent Energy Market and Development in forecasting discussions with internal and external stakeholders
- Management and improvement of forecasting systems and models
- Impact of wholesale gas, electricity and renewable energy market changes on forecasting are understood and updated in methodologies

What you’ll bring to the table:

- Ability to operate in a high-pressure role that has direct accountability for performance
- Experience in building and managing stakeholder relationships
- Ability to clearly convey complex data, analytical and modelling insights to stakeholders with a diverse range of knowledge and experience
- Skill in selection, construction and operation of appropriate economic/financial/forecasting models as applicable to business problems
- Ability to lead a diverse team of professionals and building a cohesive team culture
- Commercial acumen, understanding risk/reward positions and how forecasting decisions impact financial results
- Analytical and strategic approach to delivery
- Relevant experience and education in commercial/energy trading or equivalent
