**About the team**:
The Industry Growth Division is responsible for setting Australia’s overarching industry policy, ensuring Australian industry is sustainable, resilient and growing to its full potential. It does this through policy and regulatory functions which influence business settings, build industry capability, manage economic risk and shocks, and supports key sectors of the economy.
The division works closely with industry stakeholders, other portfolios, and state and territory governments to progress cross-cutting issues, drive sectoral development and transition, respond to economic challenges, and support Indigenous businesses.
The division oversees the Australian Space Agency, business growth services, and contributes to government initiatives in response to COVID-19. It has direct regulatory responsibility for the Australian Jobs Act 2013 and the Australian Industry Participation Authority. The division also shapes growth and job creation in heavy industries such as steel and aluminium, as well as in the defence, circular economy, medical technology, building and construction, and transport sectors.
We have opportunities in the below teams:
**The Australian Industry Participation (AIP) Authority Team**
Responsible for administering the _Australian Jobs Act 2013. _The Jobs Act ensures that major projects with capital expenditure of $500 million or more are transparent in their procurement practices and engage openly with Australian businesses, including building business capability. The team engages daily with regulated entities, provides advice on compliance with the Jobs Act and supports the AIP Authority in making decisions on AIP plans and compliance reports.
**The Business Participation in Major Projects Team**
Responsible for supporting Australian business participation in Commonwealth procurement. This includes supporting businesses to build their capability to participate in procurement, working with Defence to maximise Australian industry participation in Defence projects, managing the departments relationship with, and funding to, the Industry Capability Network Limited, and business resilience projects.
**The Heavy Industries Team**
Advises on policy issues relevant to the competitiveness of Australia’s industrial manufacturing sector (e.g. primary metals, cement, and chemicals and plastics). Policy issues include; energy, climate change, sustainability (circular economy opportunities) and trade.
**The Future Transport, Rail and Space Industry Team**
The team will be designing and implementing the Government’s new commitments in establishing a new Office of National Rail Industry Coordination, appointment of a new National Rail Supplier Advocate and set-up of a Rail Industry Innovation Council. The team will be engaging with relevant Commonwealth departments on the Government’s National Electric Vehicle Strategy and manages the relationship with the Australian Space Agency.

- demonstrate outstanding problem solving skills and the ability to use analytical and strategic policy skills to identify opportunities and implement effective solutions;
- have an awareness of the organisation, identifying recent developments that may impact on own business area;
- demonstrate critical analysis with the ability to present evidence-based findings in a logical manner while anticipating and working to minimise risks; and
- have strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to readily convey complex issues to non-expert audiences.
For the Manager position in the Australian Industry Participation (AIP) Authority team, experience implementing legislation is highly desirable.
**What you will do**:
- Lead a team, including effectively managing people working remotely or with flexible working arrangements in a dynamic environment.
- Develop cooperative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including departmental Executive, ministerial advisors, other government agencies, and industry. Experience working collaboratively with state and territory government officials would be highly regarded.
- Take responsibility for driving and managing projects and delivering high quality and timely outputs including ministerial and executive briefings, policy development and analysis.
