**IN THIS ROLE**

The Senior Advocacy and Government Relations Officer is responsible for developing strategic and proactive advocacy strategies, fostering collaborative partnerships with other levels of government and the private sector, and identifying and seeking investment and funding opportunities, to deliver key initiatives and major projects that support the Local Government’s strategic priorities.
- Actively manage issues through understanding stakeholder perspectives and complex political relationships.
- Develop and implement policy initiatives to enhance Council’s reputation and deliver positive investment and advocacy outcomes for the region.
- Provide professional advice and support on public and/or government relations and stakeholder engagement activities.

**TO BE SUCCESSFUL**:

- Be motivated, driven, and proactive with the ability to work without supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in developing advocacy and engagement strategies that support strong strategic partnerships to facilitate the delivery of major projects and initiatives
- Understands government priorities and funding mechanisms.
- Highly developed organisational, project management, time management and prioritization skills.
- With a proven track record of working effectively under pressure to meet strict deadlines
- Experience in government relations, communications, public relations, or community engagement within a corporate organisational context.
