**Position Overview**
The position of Child Care / Client Service Officer has responsibility for supervising the activities of children of clients of the Court. The first priority of the Child Care / Client Service Officer will be to supervise and ensure the safety of the children who are making use of the facilities and to engage them in activities for the limited time they are within the registry. The child care room is only available to children of parties to proceedings and children of witnesses at proceedings.
The Child Care / Client Service Officer also provides support to the client services stream under general. This work is administrative related such as managing court documents and records, reception services and preparing files for court hearings.
**Key Responsibilities and Duties**
The successful applicant will have sound communication and interpersonal skills and the resilience to deal with sensitive and emotional issues in a tactful manner. The Child Care / Client Service Officer is responsible for:
- accepting bookings for child care and admitting children to the child care room
- supervising the activities of children
- maintaining the toys, supplies and equipment in the child care room
- maintaining a register that has details of the child care clients
- maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy in relation to client matters
- communicating with family consultants working with children in child care room, and
- performing routine administrative duties in the client service stream as directed.
**Formal Qualifications**
The Child Care / Client Service Officer must:
- have a Diploma of Childcare or equivalent and a current First Aid Certificate, and
- comply with the respective State Legislation in relation to holding a current Working with Children clearance or equivalent for child related employment.
**Selection Criteria**
- Demonstrated experience in providing a secure and supportive environment for children and an ability to meet the needs of individual children in special circumstances.
- A demonstrated commitment to the provision of quality client service to Family Court clients as well as internal clients.
- Well-developed communication skills including the ability to actively listen, clarify and understand client needs (including diversity and domestic violence) and to respond appropriately to these needs.
- Demonstrated working knowledge or clearly demonstrated capability to quickly acquire a sound working knowledge of Family Court of Australia procedures, guidelines, policies and practice, including the computerised information systems in use by the Court.
- Demonstrated effective organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure achieve objectives and manage competing priorities.
