**ABOUT THE CLIENT AND ROLE**
Our client is a Queensland Local Government agency based in Brisbane’s Southside, and they are currently seeking an experienced
**Sport and Recreation Planner. **This is an opportunity that will see you joining the Sport, Leisure and Facilities Branch. This branch strives to support community wellbeing through the provision of entertainment, arts, sport, community facilities and associated services.
In this position you will be a part of the Sport and Recreation Program, helping to plan, develop and connect to achieve a healthy community through sport and recreation.
**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Prepare reports, discussion papers or memorandums providing strategic planning advice regarding current and emerging open space, land use and long-term facility needs to coordinate Council investment
- Undertake the identification of funding opportunities and prepare funding submissions to State and Federal government departments, private enterprise and other funding bodies
- Undertake needs-based research and analysis of current and emerging trends of the sport, recreation and physical activity sectors and the community
- Work closely with other Council areas to ensure land provision and land use are suitable to meet future sporting needs
- Project manage the development and implementation of Council’s sport, recreation and physical activity strategies, feasibility studies, sports master plans or discussion papers
- Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of a range of cost-effective and cost-accessible specific sport, recreation and physical activity projects that result in an increase in participation levels for the community
- Act as Council’s Client for the design and construction of large scale sporting facilities
**ROLE REQUIREMENTS**
- Well-developed knowledge and practical experience in leading and delivering the development of sport and recreation within a complex political environment, and tertiary qualifications in Sport and Recreation or a related discipline
- Comprehensive knowledge in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects, programs and services
- Demonstrated sport and recreation industry knowledge and understanding of the strategic and governing frameworks of operations at local, state and national level
- Demonstrated experience in providing specialist expertise to achieve outcomes within a complex political environment and sector
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding from external agencies and experience in implementing projects to meet the expectations and timelines
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present information clearly, communicate at an individual, team and management level and deliver concise, effective and credible options
- Demonstrated ability to proficiently manage complex projects
- Self-motivated and ability to operate with broad direction
