The Australian National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and detailed oriented Payroll Officer join our Human Resources team in this full-time, ongoing APS Level 5 position.

The Payroll Officer plays a key role in processing the Museum’s fortnightly pay run, providing payroll advice and transactional support to the Museum’s internal and external stakeholders along with assisting the Payroll Manager with the development and implementation of payroll processes and strategies, streamlining current processes and any other payroll related tasks and projects.

**Key Accountabilities**
Under limited direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:

- Preparation and processing of the fortnightly pay run and general ledger.
- Processing employee variations in the payroll system including commencements, terminations, processing timesheets, allowances, leave requests, deductions, pay adjustments, etc.
- Fortnightly, month end, year end and ad-hoc reporting and reconciliations as required.
- Assist with system and process improvements.
- Assist with developing, implementation, forecasts, and driving the strategic direction, performance and sustainability of the payroll function.
- Liaise with the Human Resources team to ensure payroll processes are in accordance with individual employment agreements, and legislative requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures to meet internal and external audit requirements.

**Selection Criteria**
- Solid understanding of payroll processes, procedures and Australian payroll related legislation.
- Ability to interpret employment contract terms, Enterprise agreements, Awards and relevant employment legislation.
- Solid problem-solving skills, high attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously and maintain accurate data & records.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver required outcomes and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills including the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders.
- Previous working experience and skills with HR or finance software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
- Consistently produces accurate work under pressure, demonstrating integrity and accountability in meeting deadlines.
