**Policy Officer Transport and Roads**
**Full-Time**
**Total Package $98,808 per annum (inclusive of super guarantee)**
Do you have experience in public policy? This is an exciting opportunity to utilise your experience and understanding of public policy development and analysis to join a team that is responsible for advocacy, policy, research, support, and advice concerning transport and roads issues relevant to the Local Government sector.
You will be an integral part of researching, analysing, formulating and evaluating policy in relation to transport issues relevant to the Local Government sector and you will manage a variety of projects, negotiate outcomes appropriate for all stakeholders and advocate for endorsed policy positions. While transport policy experience and knowledge of the Local Government sector is desirable, it is not essential. Applicants with expertise in other areas of policy or practice, including economics, planning, environment, and engineering are encouraged to apply.

- Develop policy, advocacy positions, guidelines, procedures and discussion papers for the Local Government sector.
- Liaise with key external and internal stakeholders to undertake research and analysis of issues related to transport and roads.
- Represent the interests of Local Government on various committees across WA, understand potential issues and matters arising from meetings and provide feedback to key stakeholders.
- Engage with State and Federal Government agencies, industry and other stakeholders to develop and resolve relevant issues.
- Support Local Government by providing technical guidance and capacity building.
- Knowledge of Local, State and Federal Governments structures and operations.
- Good understanding of Local Government roles, responsibilities and decision making processes.
- Demonstrated experience in policy development.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, coordination and evaluation.
- Experience organising events and facilitating workshops.
- Superior communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and accurately, and present effectively and confidently.

As the peak industry body, WALGA advocates on behalf of WA’s 139 Local Governments, delivers professional training and advisory services to members across the State and negotiates service agreements for the sector.
We aim to leverage the collective strength and influence of the Local Government sector to benefit the WA community.
WALGA has approximately 100 staff with the majority located in our West Leederville office and organised into key portfolios: Advocacy, Policy, Member Services, Infrastructure and Executive and Corporate Services.
