The position works in close collaboration with the site's veterinary to coordinate daily care of the park's captive wildlife collection, which includes a broad range of Queensland native macropods, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Duties include developing and oversight of daily wildlife round husbandry procedures, monitoring husbandry work practices to ensure high standards, preparation of daily work rosters including coordination of volunteers, on site coordination of the annual preventative health program, ensuring up-to-date and accurate record keeping (ZIMs) and compliance with ZAA policies and exhibiting animals and WHS legislative requirements.

As a member of the park's leadership team the position works closely with the Ranger in Charge, Maintenance Team Leader and Visitor Services Team Leader under the line management of the Senior Ranger and will require great communication, technology usage, and time management skills.

This position is based at the DFWP, Burleigh Heads, and works a five day on and two days off roster, including at least one weekend per month as site Duty Officer. Travel away from your normal centre of operations will be required from time to time and may include overnight stays. Rangers work on a roster basis which can include regular weekend work and may also include some public holiday work.
