
Head of Payroll

As the Head of Payroll your role will be to ensure that our people are paid accurately and on time, every time. It’s that simple. - well, almost. We do have a complex set of industrial instruments in place, so this position has a key role to play as an advisor on all matters associated with ensuring our payments are compliant, and Metcash fulfills its statutory obligations.
As a key member of our People & Culture Leadership team, this is a fantastic senior leadership opportunity to contribute to our people strategy, planning and lead our payroll function in a supportive environment that meets all the expectations of our internal customers and other stakeholders.
What you’ll do
Payroll Administration
Completion of payroll administration required from data entry to bank processing, ensuring appropriate segregations of duties are maintained
Focus on continuous improvement to increase accuracy and efficiency
Effective onboarding and offboarding of employees to avoid under and overpayments
Maintain accurate records and files for the requisite periods of time
Provide ad hoc calculations as required (e.g., redundancy and severance calculations)
Supply all materials requested by internal and external auditors
Payments
Ensuring the timely and accurate processing of;
Weekly wages and monthly salary payments
Remittances of all payroll deductions to the appropriate bodies
Cash-based incentive plans
Monthly time and attendance reconciliations
Annual increases to Award rates etc. and managing risk of future underpayments
Reporting
Essential reporting to support the budgeting process, leave liabilities and general ledger entries to both the Group Finance and Pillar/Function commercial teams
Manage expectations on timelines for delivery and support requests
Systems
Work with the IT team to ensure our payroll systems are up-to-date, robust, and secure, while also identifying opportunities to simplify and improve
Ensure our systems remain fit for purpose and enable us to meet the changing requirements of external stakeholders
Advisory
Support and leadership to the time and attendance teams, ER teams (during renegotiations) and Heads of P&C as needed
Work closely with the Head of Reward to plan annual reviews and incentive payments
Work closely with the Finance team for seamless payment approvals, as well as the tax team to manage ad hoc tax enquiries
**Note**: This role will require you to work 1-2 days per week from our Huntingwood office, and 1 day per week or fortnight in our Macquarie Park Head office.
What you’ll bring
Prior experience leading Payroll function within large organization
Experience within complex payroll environment with multiple industrial instruments (monthly and hourly paid employees)
Ability to interpret awards and EA’s
Knowledge of Chris 21, Kronos, SuccessFactors
Strong skills in planning, delivering to deadlines and juggling conflicting priorities
Ability to influence and build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including varied levels of seniority
