The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national and transport security, federal law enforcement, criminal justice, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

The Department of Home Affairs includes the entirety of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. It also includes national security, emergency management and criminal justice functions from the Attorney-General's Department; the Office of Transport Security from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development; multicultural affairs from the Department of Social Services; and the counter-terrorism coordination and cyber security policy functions from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Australian Border Force (ABF) is an operationally independent body under the Home Affairs Portfolio. The ABF is responsible for operational activity that supports the Australian Government’s border protection, investigations, compliance, detention and enforcement functions.

Within the ABF, Air and Marine Capability Branch (AMCB) is responsible for the capability management of a fleet of air and marine surveillance, patrol and response assets. Our capabilities include ocean going patrol boats, shallow water and coastal response vessels and contracted aircraft. AMCB operates in a complex, challenging and changing environment that is characterised by a continual high tempo of operations.

**About the role**:
As part of either the Cape Class Patrol Boats or the Capital Vessel In-Service Support team, as Ship Manager you will contribute to the safe, efficient and economic performance of the ABF Fleet. The teams manage ISS arrangements for eight CCPB vessels, three large hull vessels and 31 small vessels provided through complex contractual arrangements.

The Ship Manager’s salary is negotiable and allowances may apply-any offer remains at the agency’s discretion.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Meet survey, audit and ensure maintenance of appropriate certification
- Ensure depot, intermediate and corrective level maintenance standards
- Provide technical and operational support and guidance to the Fleet
- Arrange attendance of service engineers and contractors
- Consult with manufactures for specialist advice and guidance
- Ensure all statutory and class certification remains valid and compliance to industry standards
- Monitor vessel planned maintenance and ensure actions are taken
- Ensure vessels maintain adequate stocks of critical spare parts on-board.

**Role requirements/qualifications**:

- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a marine engineering role or in an service support (ISS) position
- Experience in daily ship operations
- Knowledge or demonstrated ability to quickly develop an understanding of the technical operations of equipment, systems of Small and Large Vessels
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
