**The Role**
Career Management - Army (CM-A) is seeking an APS 6 Business Manager (BM) to support CM-A Directorates with business analysis and advice across administrative, coordination and support functions. The role of CM-A is to enable a sustainable and adaptive workforce through career management to support the chain of command in preparing the land forces for war. There are six Career Management directorates within CM-A as well as an Executive function with the Chief of Staff and Director General, CM-A.

Through career management functions, CM-A Directorates undertake portfolio management, career advice, promotion and postings, as well as career management support functions such as trade and corps transfers, transfers between SERCAT’s and services plus selection, appointment and separations from the Australian Army.

Some of the key duties of this role are:

- Provide data analysis of CM-A APS workforce for the Chief of Staff
- Develop recruitment strategies to fill vacancies
- Manage recruitment activities to ensure compliance with mandated timelines
- Provide advice on APS management across the Branch
- Develop and manage the Branch TARP
- Compile reporting for Army Headquarters on Financial and Contract achievement for the Branch

The successful applicant can also expect to refine their organisational and representational skills in a high tempo environment.

**About our Team**
The Business Manager will work within CM-A Executive and has an APS4 Assistant Business Manager as a direct report. The Business Manager position works closely with the Chief of Staff - CM-A to primarily manage the resourcing and financial management of the Branch, and provide a supporting role in other coordinating functions that will assist in the administration and coordination of the Branch.

You will need to engage with APS and Army at varying levels of seniority and experience to effectively complete your role as the BM. You will also need to represent the Branches best interests as the BM and be able to negotiate outcomes that are considered and logical. The BM will also need to show an ability to work independently and show a measured level of initiative.

While no two days are the same in CM-A, on a typical day you might be have to:

- Consult with Army personnel about recruitment initiatives
- Develop data to support APS management
- Assist with Financial management across the Branch

The APS6 Business Manager will be highly motivated and confident in their abilities to clearly communicate and work with an integrated workforce across varying levels of Military rank and Australian Public Service (APS) levels. The Business Managers will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence’s mission and business objectives.

Business Managers will be able to review, analyse and report on business and coordination out comes and provide input and guidance to senior members of CM-A. The APS6 Business Manager will undertake extensive stakeholder engagement both internally and externally to the organisation, work independently and set work tasks that align with Branch outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will:

- Work with the Chief of Staff to facilitate and lead the delivery of resource and financial management across the Branch
- Analyse data and provide strategic advice to the Chief of Staff with respect to resource and financial management
- Support management, recruitment and mentoring of APS Staff
- Be able to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable with limited resources
- Meet directed timelines
- Have a very good level of computer literacy
- Assist with coordination of miscellaneous functions across the Directorate
