**The Role**
The Project Support Officer (PSO), within the Directorate of Major Surface Ships Projects (DMSSP) will be required to perform a range of duties within the integrated team supporting the delivery of Defence capability.
Key duties of the PSO position will include commercial/contract functions, budget tracking and a range of administrative support to project staff including, but not limited to, record keeping and contract deliverables/correspondence management.
Within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) Project Control function an APS5 PSO is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex project work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
An APS5 PSO will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the Project Control function based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews and perform procedural and administrative support work to achieve results.

The Maritime Systems Division (MSD) within the CASG provides through-life asset management to support Royal Australian Navy capability. Our vision is to have balanced, effective and affordable capability and availability across every class. The Directorate of Major Surface Ships Projects (DMSSP) supports the MSD vision by ensuring new capability is being set up for efficient and effective transition into service and ongoing sustainment success
- Accountable to contribute to the development and maintenance of project planning and performance processes in accordance with agreed procedures and performance standards.
- Assist with maintaining Project Management Controls and Administrative Functions of the Project.
- Research, draft and prepare correspondence and reports including submissions for committee consideration.
- Work collaboratively, operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders and understand their expectations and concerns.
- Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action.
