The National Judicial Registrar (Legal and Policy) will work closely with the Deputy Principal Registrar and members of the national operations team in key areas including policy and legislation. Primary areas of focus will be the information sharing framework, initiatives aimed at enhancing the ability of the Courts to respond to family violence and other risks to vulnerable parties and children, and other priority legislative initiatives. The role is multi-faceted, requiring exceptional agility and organisational skills, together with highly developed legal policy skills, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

**Position overview**
The National Judicial Registrar (Legal and Policy) provides crucial legal and policy advice and support to the Chief Justice, the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar (CEO/PR), and the Deputy Principal Registrar of the FCFCOA to support the exercise of his/her day-to-day responsibilities. The role forms part of a national operations team working in family law across both Courts. The National Judicial Registrar (Legal and Policy) will work closely with the Deputy Principal Registrar and members of the national operations team in key areas including policy and legislation. Primary areas of focus will be the information sharing framework, initiatives aimed at enhancing the ability of the Courts to respond to family violence and other risks to vulnerable parties and children, and other priority legislative initiatives.

The role is multi-faceted, requiring exceptional agility and organisational skills, together with highly developed legal policy skills, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. The occupant will demonstrate leadership through the performance of all functions. The key responsibilities of this multi-dimensional role include:

- Undertaking high level legal policy development, liaison and implementation work, including in relation to the national information sharing framework and information sharing initiatives;
- Liaising with the Government, State and Territory officials, and other key stakeholders on issues of policy relating to the Courts;
- Undertaking high level national/operational work, including the development and implementation of key initiatives; and
- Contributing to the work of Court Committees, including the Family Violence Committee and Legal Committee.

**Key Responsibilities and Duties**

Assisting the Chief Justice and the CEO/PR with their management of the business and administrative affairs of the Courts by undertaking key legal, analytical and strategic work, including:

- Legal and Policy_
- Providing high level legal and policy support in family law to Chief Justice, the CEO/PR and the Deputy Principal Registrar, together with national operations and other senior officials of the Courts, including in response to legislative amendments and policy initiatives;
- Leading the operation of the National Strategic Framework for Information Sharing and Co-Location Program, including providing legal and operational advice and guidance internally across the Courts;
- Managing other operational and legal issues which arise in the context of the intersection between the Courts and State and Territory child welfare and policing agencies;
- Undertaking in-depth legal research and analysis on topical and emerging issues of family law to assist with internal court reform and policy development, including providing briefings/memoranda and assisting in the preparation of submissions;
- Drafting legal and policy documents and high level correspondence, including submissions to inquiries, presentations, and reports;
- Internal and external liaison_
- Liaising with the Government on key issues of policy relating to the Courts;
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including judges; staff; Federal, State and Territory Government agencies; the legal profession; State and National Law Societies and Bar Associations; and Court users;
- Registrar functions_
- Performing the functions of a Registrar at the appropriate level, including the exercise of delegated judicial functions in the FCFCOA pursuant to sections 98 and 254 of the FCFCOA Act, respectively, and other legislative instruments, as required;
- Broader duties_
- Supporting various Court Committees and working groups with projects and other initiatives;
- Undertaking high level national/operational work, including the development and implementation of court reform and key initiatives.

**Formal Qualifications and Experience**
- Legal qualifications and admission as a practitioner of the High Court and/or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia is essential;
- Five or more years of post-admission experience;
- Experience in, and knowledge of, family law and the Federal courts system;
