The School of Mathematics and Statistics currently has more than sixty continuing academic staff and more than thirty research staff as well as visiting academics. UNSW is the top university in Australia for mathematics across the CWTS Leiden, ARWU, USNews, and QS rankings. In Applied Mathematics, the School has particular research strengths in Mathematical Modelling and Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, Dynamical Systems and Integrability, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Nonlinear Phenomena, Optimisation, Fractional Calculus, and Stochastic Modelling. More broadly, the School also has research strengths in Algebra and Number Theory, Bayesian and Monte Carlo Methods, Biostatistics and Ecology, Combinatorics, Data Science, Finance and Risk Analysis, Functional and Harmonic Analysis, Geometry, Mathematical Physics, Nonparametric Statistics, and Stochastic Analysis. The School’s research groups are

interconnected, with frequent interactions between groups and with other schools and faculties both within and outside UNSW.

The role of the Project Officer -Industry and Partnerships and Outreach Liaison is to support the research infrastructure, industry linkages and knowledge exchange initiatives of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, facilitating the interactions between the School and other partners and to manage the promotion of the School of Mathematics and Statistics in each of its core activities; teaching, research, and service, via events, outreach, and facilitating interactions for staff and students. In particular, they play a key role in ensuring high quality, responsive administrative support and assistance for the "Do The Maths" program in the School.

The role will link the School of Mathematics and Statistics with both internal and external stakeholders, prepare materials, coordinate activities, organise meetings and events, and provide administrative functions to ensure an effective and efficient delivery of services are provided to these programs and activities.

The role is required to work in partnership with the School’s Academic Coordinators, the School Outreach officer, Student Support staff, stakeholders both internally and externally, Secondary Schools, Government, and other UNSW divisions to support both the research and translational outcomes of the academic staff as well as supporting the research and industrial links in School’s teaching programs.

The role of Project Officer - Liaison and Outreach reports to the Head of School and School Manager and has no direct reports.

**Specific responsibilities for this role include**:

- Support and liaison between the School of Mathematics and Statistics and granting bodies, industry and sponsors for research programs, training and translation, administrative contact for the School with UNSW Knowledge Exchange.
- Build solid relationships with external funding bodies and develop philanthropic links with potential existing and donors.
- Work with the Head of School, School Manager, and the School’s Do The Maths and Publicity Committees to coordinate and manage the School’s events and programs, particularly targeting female high school students. These include Do The Maths, UNSW L’Oréal Girls in Science, Advanced Mathematics Program Days, UNSW Mathematics Competition, and Mathematics and Statistics research meetings and workshops.
- Support the development and implementation of research programs as agreed with the school executive, including the delivery of HDR student training and workshops.
- Contribute actively to the continuous improvement of the School’s student experience.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support for school projects, initiatives, and other ad hoc programs, supporting school events and outreach programs, the committees or designated authority in the planning, review, budgets, data collection and analysis, writing and editing documents, including reports.
- Act as the primary liaison point for all activities relating to Mathematics and Statistics event programs, including the preparation and dissemination of relevant communications and materials relating to the Do The Maths and Maths programs.
