Cross Border Commissioner Department of Primary

A key election commitment for the South Australian Government was the intent to create the new position of Cross Border Commissioner to provide greater support for people and businesses in South Australia’s cross border communities to grow, making them more vibrant places to live, work and visit.
Reporting to the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, the appointee will provide a new mechanism to address issues and facilitate collaboration and engagement with residents, businesses and community organisations, as well as all tiers of government in cross border communities. The primary focus for this role will be improved outcomes for cross border communities, increased economic opportunities and improved access to government services. Key accountabilities include:
- forging strategic partnerships across jurisdictions, inter and intra government agencies (including Victoria and NSW where similar roles operate) and business and community;
- publicly engaging with businesses, communities and stakeholders to identify key cross border issues and working across government agencies to address those issues;
- reviewing and establishing cross border governance and management arrangements, and developing strategies to optimise outcomes for cross border businesses and communities;
- increasing awareness with government agencies and advocating for cross border issues to be given greater consideration in government agency policy and planning.
The position will be based in Mount Gambier and will involve intra and interstate travel. Applications are invited from suitably qualified, results driven senior executives with a passion for both economic and social outcomes for cross border regional communities. Experience in public administration, media/communications and cross border community issues will be well regarded. Primary industries or agribusiness experience is considered helpful but not essential.
Critical qualities for success in this role are strategic and creative thinking abilities, commercial and political acumen, listening, consulting, negotiating and influencing skills, stakeholder and relationship management capability and the ability to inspire and lead change.
