Technical Claims Specialist

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Public Sector team at Marsh in Melbourne. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Technical Claims Specialist to join Marsh’s Public Sector team in Melbourne. This role is integral to the delivery of claims management services to the Victorian Local Government Mutual Liability Scheme Members (Victorian & Tasmanian councils). You will handle a portfolio of public/product liability and professional indemnity insurance claims for Local Government clients, working collaboratively with clients and our broader Liability Mutual Insurance (LMI) Team to produce cost effective outcomes for the LMI Scheme.

**We will count on you to**:

- End to end management of a portfolio of complex, high value Public Liability, Professional Indemnity claims
- Accurate reserving, claims investigation, manage claims costs, and negotiate with a variety of third parties
- Attend mediations and negotiate with both panel solicitors and plaintiff solicitors
- Build and maintain rapport with existing clients on both claims and in educational presentations (Forums and Seminars)
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as MAV, underwriters and reinsurers
- Regular reporting of large and/or contentious claims internally within the business and externally to reinsurers
- Ad hoc tasks as requested by your manager

**What you need to have**:

- Extensive knowledge and experience in liability insurance, particularly public liability and professional indemnity classes
- Tertiary Qualifications in Law and/or experience in managing complex liability claims
- Thorough knowledge of the Wrongs Act and common law principles
- Previous experience working with Local Government will be highly regarded but not essential
- Excellent client communication and influencing skills
- Ability to prioritise and organise tasks
- A strong customer service approach and ability to develop and manage positive client business relationships
