The Wardliparingga Aboriginal Health Equity Theme (AHE) at SAHMRI, located on the lands of the Kaurna people, is a leading national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led unit dedicated to wellbeing and achieving health equity among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia through quality and safe health and medical research.
About the Growth Program
The Growth Program will lead the development of a program of work aimed at building the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health researchers in SAHMRI and South Australia and nationally. The Growth Program is expected to grow a reputation of excellence and become a globally recognised provider of Indigenous health research training and development for academics, research professionals and clinical personnel.
The successful applicant will be required to work dynamically and in a highly collaborative way with key stakeholders to improve pipelines into health and medical research that support and create opportunities for new and existing Aboriginal and Torres Strait health research workforce.
This is an identified Aboriginal position where applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such.
About the role
Key responsibilities include:
- Development, implementation and ongoing coordination/management of the Growth Program.
- Design, deliver and evaluate capacity development activities, adopting meaningful metrics to measure outcomes.
- Coordinate and appropriately document all student, intern and volunteer placements within the Theme.
- Ensure capacity development activities delivered by the Program are evidence-based, culturally respectful, and sensitive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers.
- Support and work in partnership with SAHMRI People and Cultures to implement the SAHMRI Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy.
- Drive high quality communication, across a range of mediums, to grow local, national and international strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders to advance the Program’s objectives.
- Effectively navigate University Higher Degree by Research programs, supporting growth in Higher Degree Research enrolments among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through strengthening of entry pathways and support networks.
**About YOU**
- Post-graduate degree/PhD or demonstrated work experience in Education, Social Sciences, Public Health or other relevant discipline.
- Experience developing, managing and or coordinating professional capacity development initiatives in a health care or tertiary setting.
- An in-depth understanding of academic career trajectories within the health and medical research sector.
- An extensive network within the university and non-university research environment in South Australia and/or nationally.
- An unwavering commitment to promoting the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic research talent.
- Experience in leading the design and implementation of initiatives with a focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, workforce or academic researchers.
- Knowledge of capacity development theories and methodologies, with additional knowledge or experience in training or curriculum development, mapping activities with learning outcomes, being highly regarded.
Special Requirements
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- DCSI Employment Screening and Police Checks may be required.
- Some travel interstate and intrastate, including to urban, regional, or remote parts of South Australia may be required.
