**About the role**:
The purpose of the Principal Policy Advisor role is to manage a range of infrastructure deliverables across the English as an Additional Language (EAL) portfolio including:
- supporting establishment of new EAL English Language Schools and Centres (ELS/Cs), with the support of regions, including support for development of business cases using data analysis to support key decision making
- collaborating with regions and ELS/Cs to maximise use of existing infrastructure and as appropriate seeking new relocatable/infrastructure to deal with demand surges
- working with the VSBA to delivery priority strategic asset management plan actions related to EAL including a pipeline of demand, a systematic provision model for EAL, and a facility area schedule.
This is a full time, Fixed term role, 2 years from start date.
**Desirable**Qualifications and Experience**:
Previous experience in provision planning is viewed as highly beneficial to the role.
**About the Department**
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration.
The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
**About the Division**
The EAL Unit is part of the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division. Within SEPS, the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division (SPaTS) has a central role in ensuring schools can access the programs and supports they need so that all students, including cohorts who may need additional supports, can excel at school. We achieve this by designing and delivering programs, developing operational policy and advice, and providing resources and guidance to schools.
Specifically, we deliver programs and resources to:
- help all students thrive at schools, for example the Glasses for Kids
- program and guidance and resources to support the transition from primary to secondary school
- help teachers deliver the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom, in ways that support student learning and wellbeing - through Tech Schools and STEM centres, School Sport Victoria, swimming programs, State Schools Spectacular, the Strategic Partnerships Program and English as an Additional Language resources
- support priority cohorts of students, including CALD and refugee students, and rural and regional students.
The role reports to the Director, Partnerships and Priority Cohorts Branch.
