Principal Policy Advisor - Legislation to work lead, drive and support Australia-wide reforms to transform the transport sector. Are you looking for the next challenge in your policy career? Due to parental leave cover, we are recruiting for a bright, collaborative and delivery focused Principal Policy Advisor - Legislation.

This role sits within the Legislative Reform Stream of the Regulatory Reform Portfolio and provides high quality legislative and legal policy advice and services on matters across the NTC Work Program.

Your work will lead, drive and support Australia-wide reforms to transform the transport sector. You will work across Australian governments to develop options, negotiate and resolve positions, and jointly deliver through legislative and operational changes. Our goal is a harmonised national end-to-end regulatory framework to enable the introduction of automated vehicles and to realise the social and economic benefits of emerging technologies

The NTC is a policy and law reform organisation and our projects require critical thinkers, curious minds and adaptable personalities. You will liaise nationally and globally including with Commonwealth, state and territory governments; technology, automotive and transport industries; international partners and law reform institutions; academia; and associated agencies.

**About us**:
The NTC has a unique role in national land transport policy and law reform. We work across all governments and report via the joint Infrastructure and Transport Ministers' Meeting. We seek to harmonise national approaches to improve safety, productivity, environmental outcomes, consumer confidence and regulatory efficiency.

The main duties of the role are:

- Provide authoritative and strategic advice on highly complex and sensitive legal, legislative and policy issues and proposals, in the context of ITMM agreed policy objectives
- Lead delivery of legislative services and manage an on-going legislative program; lead significant components of legislative review and reform projects and the development of legislative schemes
- Identify and advise on new and emerging legal, legislative and policy issues and their implications
- Draft and review a range of legislative documentation, including drafting instructions, bills statutory instruments, and Parliamentary materials dealing with highly sensitive and complex issues, and conduct negotiations to settle documentation

**About you (Key Selection Criteria)**:
You have great interpersonal skills and enjoy working collaboratively. You are an enthusiastic self-starter who takes responsibility for delivering successful outcomes. Your experience and skills include:

- Extensive knowledge of legislative processes and associated policy, parliamentary and legal requirements along with high-level statutory interpretation skills
- Strong track record of delivering legislative reform outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and authoritative advice on complex legal, legislative and policy issues under tight timelines
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- High level capacity to represent the organisation positively and engage productively with jurisdictions and industry representatives
- Tertiary qualifications in law
