**The Role**
As an Emanation Security (EMSEC) Technical Specialist, you will be provided with specialist training to enable you to be involved with the planning, testing, surveying, inspecting, certifying and reporting of all EMSEC related activities. This includes the active management of stakeholders and managing expectations when providing expert advice to the fleet and acquisition programs.
You will assist with the maintenance of the fleet EMSEC register and liaise with customers to coordinate activities to ensure platforms and facilities maintain accreditation. To perform effectively in the role a significant level of specialist training will be provided, however a basic understanding of RF systems and the use of electronic test equipment is required.
The position operates out of Canberra but requires regular travel within Australia, anticipated to be 25% of the year. On-site tasks generally require after hours (night and weekend) work, which is supported by overtime payments.
**About our Team**
The Directorate of Navy Engineering EMSEC Cell is a small team based in Canberra within the Maritime Information Warfare Centre of Expertise supporting Director General Engineering - Navy. The EMSEC Cell provides a high level of specialist and professional advice on how to manage low level radio frequency emissions across a range of ICT equipment.
The team is responsible for understanding and implementing a range of standards when inspecting, testing and analysing the results of Navy communications systems and report on compliance of the various systems.
The reports generated by the EMSEC Cell provide the evidence required against a range of Navy Fleet, Air and Shore units to support feedback to the units and risk assessments to the certification and accreditation authority allowing informed decisions to be made and support Navy’s authority to operate secure communications equipment. These assessments provide the cornerstone of robust communications within Navy’s deployed Defence Information Environment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the design, installation, testing and/or support of communications and information systems.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of Emanation and Communication Security (EMSEC and COMSEC) practice and principles.
- Understanding of Technical Certification requirements applicable to military systems or equivalent civilian systems (e.g. DNV, Lloyds, CASA).
- An ability to develop test plans and reports based on defined standards and provide risk assessments
- Well-developed communications, ICT and client service skills.
- Management and team leadership skills to exercising sound judgement to coordinate and organise test programs.
- The availability to travel for periods of up to 3 weeks at a time.
