Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an SPEC Strategic Advisor - First Nations on a contract for 12 months.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Guiding and advocating for the strategy development and implementation process and findings internally and externally to help drive alignment and build the profile of the work.
- Maintaining a strong profile in key internal and external stakeholder networks, building, and maintaining stakeholder confidence and partnerships as well as speaking at stakeholder consultations and events, as required.
- Attending governance sessions with key stakeholders. This includes being a member of the First Nations Advisory Group (FNAG), and providing strategic input into FNAG sessions
Six (6) characteristics required by the APS SES Work Level Standards:
Leadership: (Knowledge)
- Provide advice, guidance and coaching to inform the Strategy co-design process, including supporting knowledge-sharing and capability uplift of the Agency.
- Provide an authoritative source of expert advice based on research and emerging trends.
Leadership: (Accountability
- Manage senior level relationships across the agency and with key external stakeholders from the First Nations sector.
Diversity/Span
- Development of corporate priorities on the management of First Nations people with disability within the Scheme.
- Strategic and timely policy insights and advice to the First Nations Strategy project team, ELT, CEO, and Board.
- Identify and propose solutions to strategic issues and priorities facing the agency, regarding First Nations people with disability, in key areas of design, outcomes and performance.
Stakeholder Management
- Develop strategic connections and productive relationships with key external stakeholders to support engagement and co-design activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach for the development and implementation of a First Nations Strategy.
- Representing the agency in high-level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders, including external providers and organisations, to share information, explain expectations and influence outcomes for the First Nations Strategy.
- Demonstrate the capability to communicate complex ideas clearly and to produce advice that is timely, evidence-based and persuasive.
- Be skilful in negotiating contentious issues with multiple stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
Job context and environment
- The First Nations Strategic Advisor is pivotal to the successful development and implementation of the First Nations Strategy.
- The ongoing investment in the First Nations Strategy is crucial if the intent of the original design of the agency is to be realised. Strong investment in an ongoing focus on strategy, evidence and learnings from a diverse range of sources will ensure the agency delivers its full potential.
- The Strategic Advisor will lead and participate in innovations and development of new practice and thinking in supporting First Nations people with disability.
Judgement & Independence
- Develop strategic advice on broad range of design, corporate, policy, operational and performance issues in relation to supporting First Nations people with disability.
- Support First Nations Strategy design work.
- Stakeholder engagement with key stakeholders, peak bodies and organisations.
- Present at consultations and industry forums, and represent the Agency at key meetings to present the work of the Agency on First Nations participants.
