- **Overview**_
ACJP provide the day-to-day service delivery that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people taken into police custody.
**Duties & responsibilities **.
**Call Outs**
- Respond to all calls from local police station for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Attend the local police station to undertake and conduct welfare checks
- Contact local coordinator and or ACJP state-wide coordinator for advice if you have any concerns while attending any call-outs
- Take action (e.g., informing other family members) according to the community members wishes
- Provide advice to local police about the community members needs
- Referrals to support services as required
- Assist clients with Interviews and bail hearings at requested of client
**Administrative duties**:
- Provide availability to the ACJP Coordinator for shift rosters.
- Attend and actively participate in handovers at the end of each shift and liaise with other staff as necessary.
- Ensure all administrative requirements are completed correctly in accordance with procedures.
- Attend staff meetings as necessary
- Participate in service training programs as organised by ACJP and/ or any other training to upgrade skills as required.
- Ensure that all statistical data/ record keeping and other documentation are completed and forwarded in timely manner.
- Ensure all reporting, case notes, data management and other administrative duties are completed accurately, confidentially and in a timely professional manner.
**Key Selection Criteria**
- High degree of dependability and reliability.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills especially with vulnerable and sometimes very distressed Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, their families and other community stakeholders
- Effective engagement skills including an ability to work with Victoria Police members, ACJP Coordinator, Independent Third Persons (ITPs) and other professional stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the challenges and other barriers experienced by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people interacting with the Victorian criminal legal system, including entering custody
- Demonstrated capacity for effective record keeping
- The ability to take initiative, act calmly and with confidence in challenging situations and works well under own direction.
- Identifies and uses appropriate strategies to deal with challenging and high risk situations.
- Understands and implements appropriate procedures and strategies to deal with crisis
