The Public Affairs Associate will help support our company’s external advocacy activities in Australia to ensure patients receive timely and affordable access to innovative medicines.
The Associate will work across the breadth of the Public Affairs function, providing support in the areas of Government Relations, External Communications, and Patient Engagement.
The position sits within the Market Access and Public Policy Department and reports to the Head of Public Affairs. The Public Affairs Team is responsible for advocacy activities that promote timely access to medicines, build the company’s reputation, and gain insights into the needs of key stakeholders.
**What You Will Do**
**Responsibilities include, however not limited to**:
**Government Relations**
- Support the creation and execution of advocacy campaigns that achieve business objectives, in particular the timely listing of products and indications following PBAC review.
- Create materials that advance our company’s positions on key policy issues, in association with external stakeholders and industry partners.
- Monitor and research industry and company-specific developments in the political and policy environment.
- Generate associated briefing documents.
- Create material for use with external stakeholders, including management of review and approval process.
**External Communications**
- Support our company’s external communications activities, including drafting media releases, managing media responses, and generating messaging documents.
- Generate social media content to support advocacy campaigns and advance our company’s policy positions.
- Translate scientific information into compelling narratives for the external environment.
- Identify opportunities to enhance our company’s corporate reputation by communicating company-wide business developments.
- Ensure all activities adhere to internal standards and comply with the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
**Patient Engagement**
- Undertake research and stakeholder mapping to develop insights into the priorities and needs of patients and Health Care Organisations (HCOs).
- Develop associated briefing materials that provide key insights and recommendations.
- Generate materials, particularly in relation to key policy issues, to support communications with HCOs.
**What You Must have**
- Formal qualifications in public policy, communications, law, health economics, medical science, or a related discipline
- Understanding of government and the Australian political process
- Familiarity with the Australian media landscape
- Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as a member of cross-functional teams
- Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a curiosity to learn
