Purpose of the role

The Tactical Training unit delivers innovative tactical and specialist training to operational staff and key stakeholders in a safe controlled environment. The team manages and oversees the development and review of training scenarios and operational training delivery at the Live Fire Campus (LFC) and Operational Training Facilities. The key function is to provide high quality preventative and responsive fire and rescue services and quality training outcomes, whilst ensuring and reinforcing the health and safety of training participants, staff and volunteers.

The role of the Safety Pad Operator is to assist with tasks and functions associated with the effective operations and maintenance of the fire pad and operational training equipment and facilities. You will liaise with supervisors to support and coordinate the transport vehicles and equipment; manage the set up and deconstruction of firefighting training scenario containers and props; provided general maintenance and repairs of props and equipment, and manage safe handling and control of fuel, gas cylinders and the wastewater system to enable a safe and serviceable environment for the delivery of high-quality fire and rescue training products and services.

Key requirements

Mandatory requirements
- C Class driver's licence (non-restricted).
- Possess and provide evidence of a current forklift license.

Highly desirable requirements
- A medium rigid licence is desirable but not essential to the role of the position.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Undertake set up of container and training props, personal protective equipment, including maintenance on nominated equipment and systems to ensure they are maintained and comply with relevant safety standards.
- Ensure comprehensive workplace health and safety procedures and compliance associated with an industrial environment to ensure the health and safety of training participants, contractors and/or visitors.
- Undertake designated functions such as fuel controller or breathing apparatus controller in a team environment responsible for delivering training sessions.
- Organise and track items of training and personal protective equipment, and inspect equipment to determine course of action i.e. for laundering, service, repair or disposal.
- Maintain adequate stock levels for training purposes and participate in stocktake activities to ensure accuracy of quantity and quality, and availability of equipment is maintained.
- Organise and coordinate contractor work permits, purchasing/receipting of equipment and consumable orders, waste collection, bulk fuel readings and safe delivery of fuels as required
- Maintain and operate the LFC environmental wastewater system, including water sampling and pumping to ensure manufacturer/supplier guidelines for environmental wastewater management is adhered to.
- Undertake transportation and relocation of bulk supplies and training props around the site, through the safe and efficient operation of heavy vehicle and/or forklift/s, and in compliance with relevant maintenance and safety standards.
