Join our creative and collaborative team in local government as a Subdivision Landscape Officer where you can make a difference to the future lives of the families who choose to live here. On behalf of Council oversee new landscape assets on subdivision estates and build relationships with developers and their consultants. Work on a arrange of landscape projects such as parks, wetlands, creeks and waterways, to create fantastic places for the future communities of Hume to live, work and play in. Collaborate with internal and external customers and keep accurate records of the subdivision process.
**What you’ll be doing**:
- Liaise and provide direction to developers on open space and landscaping in new subdivisions in accordance with Council’s guidelines, policies, and strategies.
- Assess development proposals for Greenfield subdivisions and major development sites and provide advice regarding the location and need for open space and landscaping under the supervision of the Team Leader Landscape Planning.
- Provide planning permit conditions in relation to open space, streetscapes and vegetation protection for consideration by the Team: Leader Landscape Planning, in accordance with Council’s guidelines, policies and strategies.
- Prepare assessments of master plans, concept and detailed landscape development plans in accordance with permit conditions and Council Landscape Guidelines and policies.
- Maintain the relevant databases and systems to accurately track landscape planning processes, and timing of handover of landscaped area maintenance to Council.
- Assist with the coordination of community consultation, in relation to additional works in parks in new estates if required.
- Assist with the development of landscape design briefs, concept designs and master plans for capital works projects if required.
- Assist with the assessment of detailed landscape plans for major capital works projects if required.
- Assist the Parks Department in the preparation of maintenance budgets for new open space and streetscape assets, as they are handed over to Council, by populating the tracking spreadsheet with asset details.
**Key skills and experience you’ll bring to the role**:
- Tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture or a closely related discipline OR substantial experience with lesser formal qualifications.
- You will be a qualified and experienced horticulturalist or landscape architect, with an eye for detail, who can assess landscape plans and ensure they meet Council's standards and guidelines.
- Experience in / or a good understanding of Local Government processes.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with land developers, landscape architects and consultants in regard to landscape planning, design and construction.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and gain co-operation from a range of Council officers and community members.
- An awareness of open space planning principles as they relate to town planning processes.
- Highly developed written communication skills including the ability to write reports and prepare documentation and correspondence.
