About the Education Portfolio / Centre for Academic Quality and Enhancement (CAQE)
The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University’s strategies related to RMIT’s academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.
The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation. The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for students is a priority for the University.
The Centre for Academic Quality and Enhancement (CAQE) sits within the Education Portfolio under the direction of the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor Education.
CAQE supports the attainment of academic standards across RMIT University. It provides an enterprise wide interpretive and evaluative function to ensure consistent process, practice and design in academic quality supporting continuous improvement and transparency in reporting of enterprise-wide outcomes to key bodies and boards to support assurance compliance and enhancement and ensure a quality student experience and provide support to educators.
The Centre partners and collaborates with RMIT Colleges/Schools and other portfolios to support staff across the University to embed a culture and practice of academic quality and enhancement.
About the role
The Principal Advisor, Quality and Enhancement plays a leading role in managing interpreting academic quality standards and processes. The Principal Advisor will play an operational role in developing and leading a culture of academic quality, supporting the interpretation, monitoring and evaluation of academic quality across RMIT operations. In this role you will have responsibility for implementing RMIT University’s academic quality framework by overseeing the effective implementation of comprehensive systems and processes to support the Enterprise.
Reporting to the ADVC Education, the position of Principal Advisor will lead a team in CAQE and will work with senior stakeholders, College, School and other Portfolios to build best practice and ensure consistent compliant and quality practice across RMIT operations. The incumbent will be required to manage and engage with a dynamic and complex matrix of stakeholder groups while ensuring the priorities of the University are met.
The Principal Advisor provides academic and tactical leadership for staff within the Centre in line with external frameworks. The incumbent works closely with the ADVC Education and portfolios across to enterprise to ensure that training and teaching activities within the Enterprise are aligned with the Centre’s objectives, targets and academic standards.
To be successful in this position you will ideally have:
- Strong leadership and management skills with demonstrated ability to lead a team to deliver on operational objectives.- Experience in developing academic compliance and quality frameworks and building compliance functions.-
- Demonstrated capacity act tactically based on organisational priorities and objectives.- Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing and negotiating skills including the ability to consult, network and build relationships within the organisation and externally.- Ability to work effectively in a collegiate environment and to develop and achieve shared goals and objectives, and to negotiate agreed directions and outcomes at all levels.- Demonstrated understanding of university systems in regards management, quality maintenance and good governance.- Experience of working with academ
