Waste Collections Driver

To assist in the provision of an efficient and reliable solid waste removal service for

the community, including operation of side lift garbage truck, town centre and park bin
collection and booked waste service collection.
- To improve the public perception of Council’s services.

**Key External Relationships**:Residents, Waste Collection Contractors

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to help Council deliver its sustainability goals.
- Undertake driving and labouring as directed within the Waste Collection Section

including:
o Parks and Town Centre waste collection;
- Kerbside Booked Waste collection
- HR Side arm collection vehicle
- Bin repair / replacement vehicle.
- Maintain basic service records as directed and report all incidents and service

irregularities.
- Clean, care for and undertake minor maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Follow safe working practices and report any unsafe plant, equipment or practices.
- Liaise with relevant staff to resolve problems and issues relating to the position.
- Ensure that all work is consistent with the goal of improving customer service.
- Act in other positions within the Waste Collection Team as required or directed.
- Ensure compliance with all business policies and procedures.
- Review and update all work procedures as directed and report on system failures.
- Integrate quality, environmental and safety performance into all functions and activities

undertaken.
- Continually review and improve work methods where related to this positions work

activities in regard to best practice in environmental, quality and WH&S.
**SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**

The position is required to work primarily at Springwood Operations Depot, Lawson Rd
Springwood and from Katoomba Works Depot as required - with a potential of two
separate shifts 4.30 to 12:45 (HR side arm and Parks / town centre waste collection) and
06:00 to 2.15 pm (Kerbside Booked waste and bin repair / replacement). Additionally,
there is the requirement to work Public Holidays including Good Friday and Christmas
Day.

**Workplace Health & Safety**

Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);

The position is part of a small team where communication and co-operation within the
team is essential to carry out the duties of the position**.

The position follows set procedures, as set out by the appropriate level of supervision, and
works to an established operational program.

**SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES**

**ESSENTIAL:
- Hold a current NSW Class HR driver’s licence together with Construction Induction

Certificate and heavy vehicle experience.
- Knowledge of, or experience in, waste collection procedures.
- Proven ability to operate heavy plant and machinery
