The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships division of the department has a lead role in enabling Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people to contribute to, and enjoy, Queensland's prosperity and lifestyle through the delivery of whole-of-Government policies, programs, and services. We do this through our professional and considered approach to providing advice, developing policy, delivering services, and engaging with our clients and stakeholders.

**Principal Policy Officer primary functions**:

- support the implementation of government's policy and program directions to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the department including supporting and implementing project management processes.
- provide strategic policy advice, and research, develop, analyse and monitor policy options relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- communicate effectively with Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples and have knowledge of both cultures and societies from a historical and contemporary perspective and recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples and consult in accordance with cultural protocols if required.
- work collaboratively with other members of the project team and across the department in a flexible agile approach.

**Key responsibilities**:
Undertake research into complex Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy and program issues and identify how these impact on outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across the socio-economic policy environment.
Undertake project planning, monitoring, and reporting in accordance with departmental standards and system requirements.
Prepare high-level and timely strategic advice, submissions, and briefing papers in collaboration with relevant internal and external partners.
Develop papers on complex policy issues for Government consideration, including Cabinet and CBRC submissions, Cabinet and Parliament processes and Legislation.
Support the implementation of government's policies, programs, projects, and initiatives to contribute to the achievement of the vision and objectives of the department.
Identify, manage, and report risks relating to their work with the department.
Assist in effective liaison, negotiation and consultation across government and non-government sectors including peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, key stakeholders, and other interest groups, including young people.
Prepare, support, and respond to consultation processes undertaken with relevant stakeholders.
Develop and maintain a network of people involved in the development, management and monitoring of Government policy through building a wide range of internal and external high expectation relationships across Government and community.
Contribute to an accountable, fair and safe work environment through the implementation of management practices, policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunities/anti-discrimination and operational management
