A phenomenal opportunity exists for an engaging, forward thinking, and commercially savvy
**Head of Transport **to lead the development and execution of Kmart and Target’s future-state strategic transportation plan and operating model. As a critical contributor to the broader and significant supply chain transformation program, at the core of this role is delivering a safer, faster service at a reduced cost, enhancing efficiency, and fostering robust transport partnerships and capabilities. This includes exploring automation opportunities and prioritising sustainability, with a commitment to transitioning to clean energy.

Additionally, the role is responsible for optimising our current footprint, seamlessly integrating both Kmart and Target into a unified and efficient model across our ‘hub and spoke’ distribution network.

This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the General Manager - Supply Chain and is the custodian of Kmart and Target’s transport Chain of Responsibility (CoR).

Based in Kmart’s National Office in Mulgrave, periodic travel will be required across sites in Australia and New Zealand.

**What you’ll be doing**

As the
**Head of Transport - Supply Chain**, you will:

- Spearhead the development and implementation of commercially viable strategies, policies, and procedures to guarantee seamless and hyper-efficient transport operations spanning Australia and New Zealand.
- Lead the orchestration of transportation activities, from innovative route planning and scheduling to real-time vehicle tracking.
- Continually review and analyse transportation costs and metrics, unleashing your analytical prowess to identify opportunities for enhancement and cost reduction.
- Establish and nurture relationships with third-party transportation providers, lead and negotiate contracts, and ensure unwavering compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
- Take the helm in leading and managing a team of transportation professionals, providing expert guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to elevate service delivery standards.
- Collaborate seamlessly with internal stakeholders—supply chain, warehousing, stores, and customer service—to synchronize transportation activities with overarching business goals.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends, regulations, and best practices, ensuring compliance and driving a culture of continuous improvement in our transportation operations.
- Conduct meticulous audits and inspections, ensuring airtight adherence to safety regulations, vehicle maintenance standards, and driver compliance.
- Develop and maintain robust relationships with key customers, addressing their unique transportation needs and swiftly resolving any issues or concerns.
- Prepare and present compelling reports, analyses, and recommendations to senior management, showcasing transportation performance, cost savings, and game-changing process improvements.

**To be successful in this role you’ll have**:

- Demonstrable transport and logistics experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (preferably in the retail industry)
- A track record of success in developing and executing strategic transportation initiatives that unlock value and deliver return on investment.
- Results-oriented and solutions-focused with experience in managing a large P & L and driving sustainable improvement across key performance metrics.
- An engaging, passionate and ‘no ego’ leadership style with deft collaboration, communication, influencing and stakeholder management capability.
- Proven experience negotiating and managing contracts with 3rd parties and managing SLA performance.
- Extensive experience in leading, engaging and developing high performing teams.
- Deep knowledge of Health and Safety requirements including critical transport safety areas.
- A positive change agent, with demonstrated results in continually evaluating and championing innovation.
- Understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transport Management Systems (TMS) would be highly regarded.
- Tertiary qualifications in Logistics/Supply Chain, Business Management, or related discipline is essential (ideally MBA qualified)
