**The Role**
Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director occupies a collaborative national leadership role to support child care sector compliance with the Family Assistance Law.

The role leads small teams to conduct compliance investigations to support the integrity of the Child Care Subsidy program in accordance with the Financial Integrity Strategy, Compliance Framework, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures enforcement decisions are proportionate to non-compliance.

The department has available positions in our Compliance Operations Team and our Provider Audits Team. The Compliance Operations Team supports the integrity of the child care system through monitoring, early intervention, and sanction of child care providers that do not comply with the Family Assistance Law. Compliance Officers contribute to or undertake site visits, campaigns and targeted operations, and regulatory monitoring and investigations.

Provider Audits perform similar functions to Compliance Operations with a focus on the financial auditing of relevant obligations under the Family Assistance Law.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Executive Level 1 Assistant Director may include:

- Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and reporting requirements, including Australian Government and Investigation Standards, quality assurance procedures and best practice models, focussing on compliance and regulatory enforcement
- Undertake, lead and manage investigations, including complex and sensitive matters, gathering evidence through desktop monitoring, site visits and monitoring warrants, requiring considerable legislation, policy and data interpretation and analysis
- Establish information for proof, validation or evidence
- Contribute to strategies delivering strong levels of regulatory compliance within the child care sector, to support payment accuracy and program integrity
- Develop and maintain internal and external relationships, networks and partnerships with key stakeholders at local, state and national levels
- Lead stakeholder interaction including joint compliance operations with state and territory regulatory bodies to support joint quality outcomes in child care sector compliance
- Provide significant and detailed advice on regulatory issues and lead and supervise the development of a range of documents, conveying complex information with clarity, including preparation of briefs to Minister’s and senior executives, new policy proposals and responding to related whole-of-government policy initiatives as required.
- Actively engage in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems to support the strategic direction of the branch
- Undertaking regional and interstate travel
- Represent the department by attending court or tribunals as a witness, and lead preparation of litigation documents for cases referred to court or Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
