**THE OPPORTUNITY**

We are seeking an in-house Legal Specialist interested in having a work/life balance whilst being part of the legal and workers compensation industry.

The purpose of this role is to assist with the preparation and strategic management of work injury damages (WID) claims, manage statutory litigation in the Personal Injury Commission, and other legally based claims, undertake legal project work and provide legal support to EML's Nominal Insurer claims teams and policy holders.

The role reports to the Legal Manager, Working as part of a Claims Business Unit this role will be responsible for ensuring EML performance targets and organisational objectives are met providing a high level of service delivery to our stakeholders.

This will be a **permanent, full time** position based in the **Sydney, Parramatta or Newcastle** office with flexibility to work from home.

**YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide legal advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines requirements affecting workers' compensation claims and employer premium to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.
- Managing, assisting, and reviewing legal advice including common law damages claims and statutory workers' compensation benefits.
- Keeping up to date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium and the scheme.
- Provide instructions to the external legal panel on compensation claims.
- Support the external legal panel in attending mediations, conciliations and hearings when required.
- Participate in the strategic portfolio review of claims.
- Have oversight and support external legal panel referrals ensuring high level of legal advice.

**ABOUT YOU**
- 1-3 years PQE, including legal practice in a Workers Compensation team managing Workers Compensation Commission litigation, work injury damages matter and advising in Workers Compensation claims, preferred but not necessary.
- Demonstrated experience in a similar legal role working within in a fast-paced business environment.
- Current NSW practice certificate highly regarded.
- Interested in having a work/life balance, and no traditional time recording or billable hour budgets
- Strong people and stakeholder management skills and experience.
