As the APS 5 Media & Public Affairs Advisor, your key focus will be to support external relations functions through proactive and reactive media relations, media reporting and analysis and website updates.

Reporting to the Media & Public Affairs Manager, **Key duties** will include:

- Draft media materials including releases, briefs, and responses
- Pitch stories and schedule media announcements
- Manage media inbox and monitor coverage
- Support media announcements and coordinate with stakeholders
- Assist with external events and the virtual newsroom
- Provide administrative support and collaborate across teams

This is a long-term labour-hire contract until June 2026, with the possibility of extension. Enjoy the flexibility of working from home two days a week, while being based in Melbourne, Canberra, or Sydney. Hourly rates include 25% casual loading in lieu of leave entitlements.

**About You**:
We're looking for a dynamic communicator with a passion for media and public affairs, a sharp attention to detail, and the ability to simplify complex information. Experience in the energy sector or government is a plus.

**Required Skills and Experience**:

- Experience in communications, journalism, or a related discipline
- Proven ability to write and edit media materials, talking points, and speeches
- Experience with media engagement, monitoring, and distribution platforms
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible language
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
- Experience in managing priorities and working in fast-paced environments
- Tertiary qualifications in communication, media, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience

Public sector experience and familiarity with social media platforms are also beneficial.
