About us

As an emergency service agency, QFES is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through the provision of effective prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities across a range of emergency situations.

Comprising the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, QFES also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

As a key member of the team you will assist in the development of FRS state level plans, policy and procedures.

In this role you will be required to maintain productive relationships and confidently communicate with both internal and external stakeholder include state, local and Australian government agencies, non-government organisations and the community.

The Program Support Officer is responsible for assisting in the management of program administrative tasks and have the ability to research and produce policy and procedures in accordance with departmental business and strategic plans.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Provide high level administrative and project support to the branch, including maintaining document management systems, filing and tracking of project records.
- Coordinate administrative activities including human resource management, finance and procurement management.
- Assist in the development, implementation, review and evaluation of state level projects and programs in support of proactive service delivery.
- Undertake research, analysis and provide advice for continuous improvement of policies and procedure documentation.
- Research, prepare and coordinate correspondence, briefings, submissions and reports as required.
- Liaise and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide secretariat support to committees, working groups and forums by preparing agendas, recording and circulation of meeting minutes and follow-up on actions, decisions and outcomes.
- Assist in performing project tasks including monitoring, status updates, planning and communications.
