**Who we are**
The Operations Division consists of the Communication and Media Branch, the People Strategy, Safety and Wellbeing Branch and the Capability and Employment Branch. The division ensures the department has a strong and well-supported workforce with the capability and capacity to deliver on the Government’s climate change and energy agenda and protect Australia’s environment and water resources.

The Communication and Media Branch delivers internal and corporate communication and strategic communication activities in support of the department and our ministers, for the benefit of the Australian community. This includes managing the department’s social media strategy and social media presence, media support services across the department and for our ministers’ offices, production services including graphic design and branding, Web publishing for external-facing departmental websites, and the development of campaign and non-campaign materials.

The Media Team plays a critical role in supporting 3 ministerial offices and departmental executive mainly through the delivery of quality media products. The team oversees media engagement for the department and is the first point of contact for journalists.

**The Job**
In this job you will be responsible for:

- overseeing and drafting of high-quality media products including media releases, media enquiry responses and media opportunity calendars
- developing strong working relationships with ministerial media advisers
- developing strong working relationships with program areas and providing them with strategic media and issues management advice.
- liaising with journalists
- supervising staff and acting as team manager when required.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- experience working in the media and/or media or communications experience working in government or a large organisation.
- working knowledge of the media

**Skills and capabilities**
- ability to quickly develop strong working relationships and gather information.
- strong writing and editing skills.
- leadership qualities, strong judgement and problem-solving skills.

**Mandatory qualifications**
A tertiary qualification in communications or journalism or related qualification

OR

Eight years relevant work experience.
