The Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities, and the Arts have a number of temporary vacancies throughout Queensland for Principal Community Recovery Officers. Locations include Gold Coast, Mackay, Rockhampton and surrounding regions.
The objective of the Principal Community Recovery Officer is to work with local councils and co-ordinate and support local activities with key partner agencies in preparation for, response to and recovery following an activation of a disaster event, incident or crisis within the community and in support of other areas across Queensland. Working within a team within a fast-paced environment, responsibilities are varied and include:
- Leading the development and implementation of community recovery strategic and operational (event specific) plans along with providing strategic advice to Senior Leaders in managing the delivery of community recovery services in response to disasters, crises, and incidents. Collaborating on the development and maintenance of community preparedness and response capability and capacity. This includes partnering with local councils and state government agencies; representing the department on disaster management forums; identifying training needs at a local and district level and delivery/facilitation of disaster management exercises. Representing the department at the local, district and regional level to partner with communities and local services including local council, Queensland and Australian Government departments and non-government organisations to plan and implement human and social recovery and disaster management responses. Providing assessment and analysis of disaster events and preparing briefings and reports to stakeholders to inform matters of concern; identify service gaps in the community and influence others to develop continuous improvements in disaster recovery efforts/activities. Coordinating support after a disaster, crisis, or event for members of the community with complex and challenging needs through a multi-agency approach and referrals to financial, psychological and social services that assists in their recovery. Participating in an on-call roster across the year to provide after-hours support to disaster management groups and senior Community Recovery staff.

To achieve success in this role, you should be able to clearly demonstrate an understanding of Queensland's disaster management system and have significant capability in community building, resilience and preparedness planning. Additionally, you should be adept at working within ambiguity; ability to work collaboratively and autonomously and possess exceptional skills in building enduring relationships.
