**The Role**
Service Delivery Division, East and West Zone, is seeking an experienced senior environmental manager to join the Defence Environment and Sustainability team based in Perth, WA. The Environment and Sustainability team supports environment, heritage and sustainability outcomes across a large and diverse estate and stakeholder group.

The Environment and Sustainability Manager (ESM) role includes the oversight, input and implementation of a broad range of environmental and heritage programs, policy and initiatives to support the sustainable use and management of the Defence estate. The Defence estate is large and contains a range of diverse landscapes, key fauna and flora species, and heritage sites and values. The role involves a mix of office and site based work, with sites located in metropolitan, regional and remote locations.

Key outcomes of the Environment and Sustainability Manager role includes:

- Provision of environment and heritage legislative, policy and technical advice;
- Implementation of Defence environmental policy and strategies;
- Environmental assessments of infrastructure projects and military activities;
- Environmental risk and incident management;
- Operating within an information and spatial management system; and
- Undertaking a broad range of stakeholder engagement and liaison including the delivery of environmental awareness briefings.

**About our Team**
As part of a wider and connected team located across several states, the environment and sustainability team makes a vital contribution to Defence being a leader in sustainable environmental management to support the Australian Defence Force capability to defend Australia and its national interests.

This position is primarily in the East Fremantle area but the role will require regular work from other Perth Metropolitan locations including Karrakatta and Swanbourne, Garden Island near Rockingham and Bullsbrook.
- Are an experienced professional with extensive relevant experience in the field of environmental management.
- Have a sound understanding of the relevant legislative context.
- Can make informed strategic decisions, considering a range of competing priorities.
- Possess professional and effective communication and engagement/liaison skills.
- Enjoy collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders to develop pragmatic solutions and achieve positive environmental outcomes.
- Are motivated to develop professionally and stay informed of local and national organisational and environmental issues, supporting and seeking support from a broader team.
