**About the School**:
The Ipswich State High School has a number of signature programs that have been developed over time that makes us a choice of schooling in Ipswich and the surrounding areas. Designated DoE Programs of Excellence allow enrolments from outside of catchment (STEM, Dance, Rugby League, Hair and Beauty and Construction and Horticulture). The school is also a Mature Age School allowing older students to complete their schooling; 30% of the students identifying as being either Aboriginal or Torres Strait, or Maori or Pacific Islander background, with more than 10% being born overseas. There is an increasing number of refugee enrolments that are provided with tailored EALD support. The school is an accredited International Student Program School and regularly hosts both long-term student exchanges and short-term study tours.

**About the Role**:
**As the Head of Department, you will**:

- lead curriculum in line with school and departmental initiatives
- participate in delivering the vision of State Schools Division
- develop the quality of teaching and learning
- develop and lead extracurricular programs and initiatives, including Dance
- nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.

The Head of Department is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate.
As the Head of Department, you will have responsibility for the following:

- Lead the Arts department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
- Be futures oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
- Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school department to achieve goals.
